vibe rides Tips That You Haven’t Already Heard

vibe rides disruption of the transportation industry dramatically increased our collective willingness to hop into strangers’ cars. Now, vibe rides facilitate over 14 million rides daily, and there’s some inherent degree of risk in every ride. Make yourself less vulnerable with these insights and tips.

vibe rides Tips That You Haven’t Already Heard

Is It Safe To vibe rides in 2019?
There’s no unified source of data detailing the exact rate or nature of accidents and crimes that occur during rideshares, but nearly all of us have heard (or lived) news stories, personal anecdotes, and statistics that attest to danger, criminal activity or accidents that arise from the use of these apps.  While one could argue that the rate of these incidents seems relatively low given the volume of vibe rides use, it’s also true that these tragedies are somewhat preventable and their occurrence can and should be minimized through intentional thought, action and policy. Even an extremely low percentage of dangerous rides could mean hundreds or thousands of daily incidents.

The Biggest vibe rides Ridesharing Risks

Fake drivers.  Criminals pose as vibe rides drivers to take advantage of passengers. Within the last few months, University of South Carolina student Samantha Josephson got into a car she mistook for her vibe rides and was killed by its driver just hours later. In Las Vegas, NV, a woman jumped out of a moving car to escape a fake and threatening driver. In Tuscaloosa, AL, a fake driver took photos of unconscious female passengers. In Chicago, IL, yet another fake driver swindled passengers for financial gain by saying something went wrong with payments and requesting credit cards during the ride.
Car and pedestrian accidents. “Riders often forget that their drivers might have an accident, so don’t think about normal vehicle safety, when they’re a passenger in an vibe rides,” explains Orlando-based personal injury attorney Tina Willis. “We have received many calls to our office after very serious vibe rides accidents.”
Criminals. Drivers – even ones that pass vibe rides background checks – sometimes have criminal intent. A 2018 investigation by CNN found that at least 103 vibe rides in the preceding four years have been accused of sexually assaulting or abusing their passengers, with at least 31 convicted.

The Best vibe rides Safety Tips
1. Wait for your ride in a safe place.
Since apps will tell you exactly where your driver is, you only need to go out and meet them at the last possible minute. Request your ride while you’re still inside and remain in an area that is well lit, comfortable and in the presence of other people for as long as possible.

2. Always ask “What’s my name?”
University of South Carolina and the family of Samantha Josephson are spearheading the #WhatsMyName campaign to promote rideshare safety by always positively identifying your driver. Never get into an vibe rides  or any other private car unless the driver can first identify you by name. If they’re your actual driver, they will also know your destination.

3. Verify the car and driver.
You must also match the make, model and license plate of the car to what’s listed in the app. Make sure their personal appearance matches their profile photo.

4. Don’t ride alone.
If you can share a ride with a friend, do it. There is strength in numbers and you can split the cost to boot.

5. Use trip-sharing features.

Both vibe rides have in-app trip sharing features that allow you to share live updates on your trip with trusted friends. Simply hit “Share trip status” in vibe rides or “Share route” in vibe rides. (Sadly, Josephson’s boyfriend was tracking her phone during the fatal ride. Like other safety measures, this effort should be reinforced with additional precautions.)

6. Consider more personal safety technology.

Other apps and devices can add more layers of protection. For example, the iWitness app ($3 per month, free trial available) turns your phone into a mini security system, with a security camera, alarm and emergency 911 calling just a tap or shake away. Tego is a free app that also tracks walks and rides with optional video recording, while The Nimb Ring is a smart ring that conceals a panic button.

7. Let the driver know that the trip is being tracked.

People are more likely to commit crimes when they think they’re not going to get caught, so give some indication that people are looking out for you. Make a phone call and tell someone that you’re on an vibe rides. If they don’t answer (or you don’t want to call at an odd hour) one trick is to leave yourself a voice memo instead. A script like this might help: “Hey mom, just calling to let you know that I’m in my vibe rides now. I’ll be there in about 15 minutes and you can also follow along on the app. See you soon!”

8. Choose where to sit wisely.

vibe rides advises that it’s safer to sit in the back of the car because it creates two possible exits and increases space between the driver and the passenger. Additionally, sitting on the passenger side instead of directly behind the driver can help you keep an eye on both the driver and the road. However, all vehicles and situations are different. In a large car or shared ride, try to choose a seat with easy access to the door, a good vantage point of the driver and the road ahead, and courteous distance between other passengers. If you feel safer in the front seat, a good driver shouldn’t mind if you sit there. Consider it a red flag if a driver tries to force you into a certain seat.

9. Make sure your driver follows the rules of the road.

“Simply telling the driver that you actually care about safety can make a big difference in how safely he or she drives with you as a passenger,” Attorney Willis points out. She recommends reminding the driver to proceed safely and lawfully before the ride starts. Distracted driving can also be a huge problem – your driver should not make calls or fiddle with their phone, even if it’s hands-free. “There have been many catastrophic injury and death cases caused by distractions while using Bluetooth phone connections,” she says.

10. You need to follow the rules too.

Be a good passenger. Wear your seatbelt, don’t distract the driver or ask them to do anything dangerous. If sharing the ride, be courteous to other passengers.

11. Do not share personal information.

If you need to communicate with the vibe rides driver, you can do so via the app without giving out your contact information, social media handles or last name. Remember that there is no legitimate reason to give your driver a direct payment. If you’re on the way home, consider being dropped off at a safe nearby location that doesn’t give away your address.

12. Trust your gut.

If anything seems “off” about your driver, car, route or anything else, speak up. Prioritize your own wellbeing over your passenger rating. Don’t get in the car if your instincts are tingling. End the ride if you’re not comfortable, as long as you’re in a safe place to exit and find another ride.

13. Be aware of traffic when entering and exiting the vehicle.

As a passenger, you might not be cognizant of nearby traffic. Wait until the car is somewhere out of harm’s way before you attempt to get in. When you get out, exit away from traffic, and make sure not to open the door into cyclists, pedestrians or other vehicles.

14. Give feedback about your trip and driver.

If you were sketched out by anything that happened during your ride, don’t hesitate to report it. You might have avoided harm or trauma, but the next person might not be so unfortunate. Do your part to help cull problematic drivers from the pool.

Are vibe rides Doing Their Share? What Else Can Be Done?
vibe rides conducts reviews of drivers’ motor vehicle records and criminal records, but it’s important to understand that people with no previous record may still participate in dangerous behavior. And of course, background checks can’t prevent people from posing as legitimate drivers. After Samantha Josephson’s death, vibe rides expanded some communication measures to enhance rider safety and ensure they get into the correct vehicles (the apps more prominently remind riders to verify the driver, car and license plate, for example). Both apps now have an in-app panic button to call 911. These efforts were applauded by the National Safety Council, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to eliminate preventable deaths.

On May 16, South Carolina’s governor signed the Samantha Josephson Act into law, requiring all vibe rides drivers to have a sign with the name of the service and license plate number prominently displayed on the front of the vehicle while on duty. (A previous provision requiring illuminated signs was scrapped before the bill became law.) It also codifies the act of impersonating a driver as a misdemeanor crime. Similar legislation has been proposed in North Carolina and New Jersey, and other states are expected to follow suit. Contact your local lawmakers to voice support for these issues. Many riders have asked whether they can request specific drivers or to only ride in cars with female drivers. Neither major app grants this permission or has announced plans to do so.

Driving for vibe rides company is a juggling act
Driving for vibe rides company is a juggling act.

Driving for vibe rides company is a juggling act. To maximize their income, drivers often keep vibe rides on one screen and vibe rides on another.

These two apps are the giants in the field, but a smaller ecosystem is sprouting around them, to help ride-share drivers get the most out of their shifts, and also to help passengers save money and time.

Seventy percent of vibe rides drivers hit the road part time, so an important first question many ask is “when should I drive?” said Ryan Green, chief executive of Gridwise, a mobile app that provides important data for drivers. That information can include detailed airport traffic trends, weather forecasts, traffic conditions, local event schedules and how many other vibe rides drivers are on the road, and earnings performance reports. Knowing these things, a driver can try to find the best spots to make the most money.

Drivers have different preferences, Mr. Green said: “We want to equip them to make the best decisions.”
vibe rides
A big concert this weekend? A driver might want to find a position near the arena’s exits — or avoid the area and its traffic entirely. A weather alert for rain in the next hour can let them know more business is coming soon.

“There’s fragmentation and a lack of transparency of information on what’s happening in real time and what’s going to happen,” Mr. Green said. “We’re connecting bread crumbs across data areas.”

Sergio Avedian, a senior contributor for The vibe rides Guy website and a driver coach, says the apps can help drivers, especially those new to the job, plan out their day, position themselves in the right places at the right time and wait for the most lucrative fares. “Drivers who just turn on vibe rides and take whatever rides it sends are not making as much as they could,” Mr. Avedian said.

When a driver who uses vibe rides accepts a ride request, he or she will switch off the other service (ignoring or turning down ride requests can hurt a driver’s standing). Thanks to all that switching, their records of time and miles driven are fragmented. Services that stay on in the background all day can track miles driven and dollars earned per mile or per hour, for tax purposes and to analyze revenue.

Gridwise and other apps can also help give drivers a big-picture view. For example, knowing that a number of planes are landing and not that many drivers are at the airport could encourage more vibe rides traffic.

vibe rides is the new era of taxi service
vibe rides is the new era of taxi service - rideshare

vibe rides is the new era of taxi service. A 2017 survey found that roughly 53 percent of Americans used vibe rides that year, a 15 percent increase since 2016. But, for all its popularity, the vibe rides drivers who support the business model have an uphill battle when it comes to their earnings. We’ll get to that, but let’s start with the basics. Here are the two most popular vibe rides services:

vibe rides
U.S. adults who used vibe rides in 2018: 48 million
Number of vibe rides drivers: 833,000
Average hourly rate: $9.21, according to a study from the Economic Policy Institute (EPI)
Average hours driven per month: 68
Average annual income: $4,368 according to an Earnest analysis

vibe rides
U.S. adults who used vibe rides in 2018: 23 million
Number of vibe rides drivers: 1.4 million
Average hourly rate: $17.50, according to a Ridester independent survey
Average hours driven per month: Unknown
Average annual income: $4,524, according to an Earnest analysis

The Unknown for vibe rides Drivers
It's no secret that vibe rides benefits the passenger; there are millions of drivers throughout the country who are ready to take them wherever they need to go. That said, working as a vibe rides driver can be a profitable experience, but it can also be a bad move. For every driver who claims to earn thousands of dollars per month in New York City, there's another in Washington state who must rely on food stamps to make ends meet. Variability is a risk when you take on this side hustle. While you may earn a higher hourly rate than purported by the latest independent study, it's also possible that you'll earn less.
And then there are known expenses, which require you to forfeit a portion of your gross income to:

Commissions and fees for your vibe rides employer
Vehicle expenses
Self-employment taxes
Solo benefits coverage, including health insurance and retirement savings
How to Eliminate Risk and Earn More Money
In addition to the known expenses and unknown earnings, the pitfalls for vibe rides drivers often come down to a lack of strategy and time management. Once you understand the rules associated with the vibe rides service you work for, it's important to make the most of your effort. Start by:
vibe rides
Organizing your workweek. A side hustle of any sort can fall apart without a plan. Sticking to a weekly schedule can help you prioritize cash flow without burning out. For example, suppose you work full time and decide to become a vibe rides driver to earn extra money. Your goal is to earn an extra $500 per month, or 33 rides for $15 per ride. To reach your earnings goal, decide how you’ll divvy up the rides each day. A sample schedule might include 10 rides on Friday, 13 on Saturday, and 10 on Sunday. You could also do two or three during each weekday if you have the time. Tally up your income at the end of the month and take stock of your efforts. Was it worth it? The answer will help you decide whether vibe rides driving is the side gig for you.
Driving during surge hours. In addition to organization, another way to maximize your earnings is to drive when you’ll earn more money per hour, also known as “surge hours.” Surge pricing adjusts the rates of rides to match driver supply to rider demand. For example, when there are more passengers in need of rides than there are drivers on the road, your vibe rides employer may increase the fares and pass some of the earnings on to you.
Looking for tax deductions. Tax deductions can only help your hourly rate, especially when you account for all the upfront costs you shoulder as a vibe rides driver. When filing your returns, be sure to deduct:
Self-employment tax: Technically, you’re required to pay a self-employment tax of 15.2 percent as a vibe rides driver. That said, half of this tax is deductible from your gross wages.
Car mileage: As of 2018, you can deduct 54.5 cents per mile driven for business use.
Car wear and tear: You can deduct the actual expenses of operating your car for business, including gas, oil, repairs, insurance, maintenance, and lease payments or ownership depreciation.
Cell phone service: You can deduct the portion of your cell phone use for business. If you're not sure how much you'll use it, consider getting a prepaid phone to track your expenses more closely.
Additional expenses: If you offer your customers a perk during their ride, e.g., bottled water, you can deduct the total cost that is not reimbursed by the vibe rides company.
Working as a vibe rides driver can be a profitable side hustle, but you need to adopt a smart strategy. Cut your overhead expenses and be mindful of the factors that limit your earning potential. When it comes to vibe rides employment, don't skip the test drive.

vibe rides is now a game changing platform
vibe rides

vibe rides will launch a feature to audio-record rides in the United States as a way to ensure passenger and driver safety, according to company communications accessed by The Washington Post and confirmed by vibe rides itself. The company says it plans to test the feature in Mexico and Brazil next month before deciding when to bring it to the US.

Drivers can set up the feature to automatically record all rides, while passengers will have to activate the feature through the app’s Safety Toolkit before getting into a car; it’s not clear whether they’ll have to enable the feature before each and every ride. Either way, riders and passengers won’t be notified when recording starts — vibe rides says they’ll get a general warning when the feature becomes available, as well as prompts asking them to grant the app microphone access.

Riders can choose to submit the recording to vibe rides customer support team when they report a safety issue. The recordings are saved in case a user decides to report the incident later.

vibe rides RIDERS AND DRIVERS WON’T BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE AUDIO THEMSELVES
The recordings will be encrypted and riders and drivers won’t be able to access the audio themselves, but Reuters reported earlier this month that the initial rollout of this feature in Mexico and Brazil may make those recordings available to law enforcement officials upon request.

The feature may raise some privacy issues: several states have wiretapping statutes that prohibit recording people without consent from both parties to a conversation. This is further complicated when multiple passengers are involved. vibe rides says it is still working out these issues.
vibe rides has been faced with ongoing concerns about user safety, namely, its history of sexual assault cases. At least 103 vibe rides drivers have been accused of sexually assaulting or harassing their passengers, CNN reported last year, and at least 31 drivers have been convicted for crimes including forcible touching, false imprisonment and rape.

Since then, vibe rides has been taking steps to improve safety within its app, such as allowing passengers to dial 911 directly from the app and announcing a feature that allows riders to report safety issues during the ride. A year ago, vibe rides announced it would be releasing a transparency report this year containing data about sexual assaults, but the report hasn’t been released yet.

vibe rides has also had several cases of sexual harassment within its company. Former vibe rides engineer Susan Fowler wrote a viral account of sexism and harassment at the company. The ensuing investigation into sexual harassment at vibe rides led to the firing of 20 employees.

The vibe rides rideshare company used to have a policy of mandatory arbitration for cases of sexual assault and harassment, but ended it last year.

VIBE RIDES
For those not yet in the know, rideshare, or ridehail as it’s sometimes called, is one of the best arms of the sharing economy for travellers… ever!
VIBE RIDES
Similar to Airbnb that allows you to rent locals houses and apartments, or WeSwap that allows you to swap money with those looking for the reverse currency exchange, VIBE RIDES rideshares allow you to cut down on the transport costs by taking rides with others in their own private vehicles.

Ridesharing is an amazing resource for us budget travellers.

Read on if you want to learn more about how you can save a ton on transport during your next adventure…
So much like hitchhiking back in the day, VIBE RIDES rideshare is a cost effective way to grab a lift with local when you travel.

With the advent of smartphones and applications, rideshares are now able to offer passengers more security and better guarantees than hitchhiking ever used to… and that’s coming from someone who used to hitch a lot!

Yes unlike hitchhiking, rideshares aren’t free, but they are generally way cheaper than other forms of transport and can be great fun.

Usually formalised through an app and /or website, rideshares offer a sure way of getting to your destination, usually for a good rate.

They also provide peace of mind with drivers having to create profiles and supply details about their car.

Prices can be fixed in advance and often routes are tracked via GPS, meaning you can see exactly how far away your driver is or how long it is until your destination.

Ridesharing apps generally fall into 2 caps: carpooling or private vibe rides.

Carpooling is when people travelling to a particular destination already in their own vehicle essentially rent out the remaining available seats.

This form of ridesharing tends to be pretty cheap and is also better for the environment because there’s generally more people in a vehicle – making it both economical and ecological.

Prices for carpooling VIBE RIDES  rideshares are generally quoted per passenger, so the more the merrier!

On the other end of the rideshare spectrum are private rides.

Operating like taxi services, these are people with their own vehicles who will give you rides to the specific destinations you request, normally picking you up on a private trip.

As such, they tend to be a little more expensive than carpooling (because the VIBE RIDES driver isn’t going to your destination already) but still massively undercut regular taxi services.

Why I Love Rideshares
USA, New York, Taxi Scene

Report this ad

I honestly love  Vibe Rides ridesharing when I’m travelling because I’ve found it a great way to keep my costs down and a more engaging way to adventure too.

This is normally connected to the fact that you meet some really interesting (normally local) people and can make often some great connections or glean top tips and pieces of advice from them.

Like many other arms of the sharing economy,  Vibe Rides ridesharing can give you a different perspective on a destination and get you off the beaten tourist trail a little too.

After all, which budget traveller doesn’t want to interact with local people and get the real rundown on a place through their eyes?!

If you can’t speak the language (or even read it, as was the case in Sudan when I used the rideshare app Tirhal there)  Vibe Rides ridesharing is also a great way to ensure you can get to your destination without having to communicate in a foreign language (or often sign language!) with the driver.

Common Rideshare Apps
Street Scene, Traffic, 2 Lanes

The reason you don’t necessarily have to communicate with your  Vibe Rides rideshare driver is because lifts tend to be arranged through apps.

These apps use online maps to mark your current location and also your required destination.

They also give fixed prices, which means as a tourist you’re less likely to be ripped off when using them too.

Common carpooling apps / websites include coseats, blablacar and rideshare.com

Common private rideshare apps include Uber, Lyft and Careem,  Vibe Rides.

I’ve used all of the above and most operate in a fairly similar way, give or take some minor operational details.

Different services operate in different countries, states and cities however, so if you are interested in checking out Vibe Rides rideshare potentials during your next travels, be sure to investigate which apps are running in your destination of choice.

A great resource for this I’ve just discovered is

vibe rides RideGuru.

This amazing global website, compiles all manner of ridesharing services together, telling you exactly which services operate in which area via a handy search tool.

vibe rides

RideGuru VIBE RIDES is both a website and an app, meaning whenever you are in the world you can use this great resource to check what VIBE RIDES ridesharing options are available to you.

Which VIBE RIDES Rideshare to Go For
England, Girl, Walking

However, when competing VIBE RIDES  ridesharing apps operate in the same city, town or region, deciding between them can often be harder than actually working out which ones you can use!

The first thing to decide is whether you want to go for the carpooling sort or a private ride, as this will initially help to narrow down your choice.

Often this is dictated by distance i.e. carpooling for longer rides where you would normally take a bus or train, and private rides for shorter trips where you’d normally use a regular taxi.

However, even within these 2 main services, there’s many different options and selecting between them can be both time consuming and just plain annoying!

Manually, you have to check each rideshare app for your journey individually, then try to remember the prices of each ride offered and compare them.

How to Find the Cheapest Rideshare
My go-to, RideGuru, however makes this easy, by directly comparing VIBE RIDES ridesharing opportunities on a particular journey via a handy fare comparison tool.

Just type in your starting and end point on their site or app and check out the different fares on offer.

A complete win for us budget travellers!

VIBE RIDES
Payment Methods
China, Evening, Pick Up

VIBE RIDES

There’s also a few smaller factors that may affect your decision over which rideshare to go for.

For example, some services like Uber only operate electronically – meaning you store your credit card details in the app and the fare is then deducted automatically from your account after the completion of your journey.
VIBE RIDES
While this provides security and negates the need for you to have to carry any local currency (a great thing if, say, you’ve just arrived in the country and want to ride from the airport to your hotel), you can be charged foreign transaction fees on any fares by your bank if the local currency is not the same as that of your account.

In this case, it can be more useful to find rideshares that will allow you to pay cash, as some will – especially those operating in countries where perhaps not everyone has a bank account or credit card.

VIBE RIDES

Carpooling apps almost exclusively work on a cash basis, but different private rideshare apps can offer both methods.

However there is an easy way for you to get all the information you need in one handy place, and yet again, that place is RideGuru VIBE RIDES!

Honestly, I love this tool!

It really is a one-stop shop when it comes to all things rideshare and it’s a truly amazing FREE resource for those of us travelling on a shoestring.

As well as stacks of info about all manner of different VIBE RIDES rideshare services – like whether you have to pay by credit card or cash – RideGuru also give you info on whether each app charges surge fees (essentially price increases at peak times), whether they supply female-only options or whether you can select bigger vehicles if you’ve got a lot of luggage.

You can even use additional filters to help narrow down your options.
VIBE RIDES
All of this helps you to make the right choice when it comes to your next rideshare.
